Legendary Football Coach Larry Ginsburg to Be Honored in Pre-Tournament Ceremony at Eastern High School on June 26

VOORHEES, NJ – The Adam Taliaferro Foundation will celebrate the life of legendary football coach Larry Ginsburg, a former Eastern Regional and Woodbury High School skipper who passed away in 2020, during a special memorial ceremony on Saturday, June 26.

Members of the Taliaferro Foundation Board of Directors, Ginsburg’s family, and former players and colleagues will participate in the ceremony honoring Ginsburg prior to the 2nd Annual ATF Coach Ginsburg Football Classic 7 x 7 Tournament.

A Hall of Fame skipper, Ginsburg served as Adam Taliaferro’s coach at Eastern High School. Coach Ginsburg was also a founding member of the Foundation and a long-time Board member. Prior to arriving in South Jersey in 1977, Ginsburg served as head coach at Dover (Delaware) High School, where he began his 33-year career that resulted in 213 career wins at three schools.

At Woodbury, Ginsburg’s teams went 70-48-5 and won four Colonial Conference and three South Jersey Group 1 sectional crowns. Mr. Ginsburg was the Brooks Irvine Football Club’s coach of the year in 1989, his final season at Woodbury.

At Eastern, Ginsburg’s teams registered a 69-28-2 record and won three Olympic Conference American Division titles. His last team, which featured Adam Taliaferro as a star running back and defensive back, advanced to the South Jersey Group 4 championship game.

Taliaferro was a starting DB as a freshman at Penn State in 2000, when he suffered a spinal cord injury in a game at Ohio State. Doctors predicted that Taliaferro would not walk again, but he made a remarkable recovery, earned his law degree, and pursued a career in politics.

Coach Ginsburg helped start the Adam Taliaferro Foundation, which provides financial and emotional support to patients who have suffered spinal-cord injuries, as well as their families. In 2019, the Foundation changed the format of its annual football game to a 7 x 7 tournament and named the tournament in Coach Ginsburg’s honor.

The ceremony will begin at 9:00 am, just prior to the start of tournament competition.
