Tenth Anniversary Gala Celebration Kicks Off
GLASSBORO
A press conference will be held on Sunday, April 11, 2010, 1 p.m., at Rowan University in Glassboro to introduce those players selected for the annual Adam Taliaferro All-Star Football Classic and to kick off the Foundation's 10th Anniversary Celebration.
The rosters for the Annual Blue-White All-Star Classic – the all-star football game that brings together South Jersey's premier seniors – have been finalized and will be announced on Tuesday, April 6.
The annual game will be played June 26 at Rowan University in Glassboro at 7 p.m., and proceeds will benefit the Adam Taliaferro Foundation.
Coaches for the all-star contest will be Northern Burlington football coach Jon Reising (Blue team) and Haddonfield coach Frank DeLano (White team).
The Foundation will also announce highlights for the 10th Anniversary Gala Celebration, which will take place Saturday, October 16, 2010 at the Hyatt Regency Penns Landing in Philadelphia.
Foundation Executive Board members Tony Sacca, former Penn State quarterback, along with former Eagles' stars Mike Mamula and Mike Quick will be on hand during the press conference to introduce details of the Gala celebration.
The press conference will be held in the Rowan University Student Center to formally introduce the players on both rosters, according to retired Haddon Township football coach Tom Curley, who heads the Taliaferro Foundation committee in charge of the game, which attracted 5,000 fans for the June 2009 contest and is the major fundraiser for the Foundation.
“The players will meet each other for the first time along with their coaches and will be drilled in every aspect of what this game is all about,” said Curley. “We’re looking forward to another successful game.”
Taliaferro, the former Eastern standout, was paralyzed while making a tackle for Penn State in 2000. He has made a remarkable recovery and is now an attorney for a Philadelphia law firm.
The Adam Taliaferro Foundation (www.taliaferrofoundation.org) was started in 2001, and has raised nearly $400,000, helping others who have incurred spinal injuries throughout the tri-state area.
The mission of the Foundation is to not only provide financial but emotional support for victims of spinal cord injuries and education to treat and prevent future injuries. In addition, the foundation provides yearly scholarships to high school students.
